3D animation
Kvagga is a stylized sci-fi short that explores the perilous power of groupthink through the journey of a young security guard caught in a web of dangerous social dynamics.
We contributed to the project by assembling the 3D production pipeline, creating the 3D layout, and finalizing the rough mocap animations to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow.
Production Scope
We joined the project after the motion-capture shoot had already been completed, so our first challenge was to determine how best to utilize the recorded skeletal animations and build an efficient production pipeline around them.
Technical setup
One of the key challenges was establishing a pipeline for 12 fps animation. To achieve the desired stylized look, we had to simplify the motion-capture data, preserving the most important poses while removing unnecessary movement and noise.
Animation
Once the pipeline was in place, the animation process became relatively straightforward. The work primarily involved refining character locomotion, ensuring proper foot placement, strengthening storytelling poses, and creating expressive facial performances.
Final Delivery
With the visual style finalized and all production elements in place, the project came together as a dark yet captivating sci-fi short, blending atmospheric storytelling with a distinctive visual identity.
