2D Animation
Béla is a unique black-and-white animated documentary chronicling the life of Béla Lugosi, the legendary Hungarian actor who became immortalized as Count Dracula in the 1931 classic film.
Our role in the project involved constructing, animating, and simulating stylized 3D sets for the movie, while ensuring seamless integration with the 2D animation to achieve a cohesive visual style.
Scope
The project was an exciting opportunity for our team to contribute to a production featuring outstanding 2D animation. While we were not responsible for creating the original animated content, we were delighted to be involved and to add our own expertise to the project.
Pipeline
After the initial excitement, it was time to tackle the technical challenges. Our main task was to seamlessly integrate 3D scenes into an existing 2D world. To achieve this, we developed a custom workflow for each sequence, carefully defining which elements should appear in front of the characters and which should remain behind them, ensuring that the two techniques blended together naturally.
Results
The project went on to become an award-winning short film at the 14th Kecskemét Animation Film Festival (KAFF), earning recognition for its distinctive visual style and storytelling.
