Helka is a timeless Hungarian fantasy tale of a young princess whose magical adventures unfold along the enchanting shores of Lake Balaton, a story that has captivated readers for over 200 years.
We managed the complete production, overseeing art direction and character design while developing a cost-effective approach to bring this enchanting tale to life within budget. Combining 2D backgrounds with 3D imagery, we collaborated with the talented team at Pixoloid Studios, achieving a visually stunning result.
Creative Development
When we joined the Helka project, it already had a script. Our job was to figure out how to bring it to life through animation while aligning it with audience expectations.
Look Development
This was the main challenge we set out to solve: how to create a premium, high-end visual style that could still be produced within budget.
Visual Strategy
We had the privilege of working with an exceptional team of concept artists from Pixoloid, supported by talented 3D artists and animators. However, with a limited number of 3D animators and generalists available, efficiency became a key consideration. To meet both the creative and production goals, we developed a range of 2D-driven visual and effects techniques that allowed us to deliver a rich cinematic experience within the project's constraints.
Story Reel
As part of the production, we created an animated storyboard that summarized the entire story in about four minutes, giving stakeholders a quick, high-level overview of the narrative.
